Team Progress

Our team held a meeting this week where we discussed how to clean up and structure our code. I was unable to attend the meeting due to a previously scheduled appointment. Based on the meeting, we updated the visual design of the protagonist, expanded on the details of our narrative, updated the code and component structure of our Unity project, created an updated storyboard, and incorporated Cinemachine and Post Processing stack into our Unity project.

Individual Contributions

This week, I began working on the sound design for our game. I started by looking at different soundtracks of video games with similar aesthetics as our game. From there, I started to pick out the elements/aspects that would fit our game‘s style. One thing I experimented with was creating atmospheric pads to produce a spaced atmosphere. The first sound I created was a sci-fi/horror-esque pad, made with a grand piano sound with a lot of effects applied to it. The second sound I created was a spacey ringing pad that gradually builds up, made with Ableton Live's Collision instrument using the noise exciter and two identical resonators set to the marimba resonator type.

Besides creating these sounds, I also experimented with different sound styles using different bass and drum sounds and patterns. These may not be used depending on the sound style our team ends up choosing.

Reflection

One issue that occurred this week was creating sounds to go with our game. This was because we haven't decided on the sound style for our game yet. Therefore, I tried creating sounds I thought would fit the game aesthetic. We will begin to solve this problem this week by creating a list of video game soundtracks/songs that fit the atmosphere and aesthetic of our game and use them as the basis for creating the sound style of our game.
