Team Progress

Our team held a meeting this week where we discussed what type of tiles we need and their rough design. We also discussed what extra art assets we might need, what sound style we would go for, what cutscenes we needed, and how we would implement the cutscenes. For the rest of the week, we created and implemented the new tiles, added several mechanics features, and implemented several levels for our prototype.

After completing our prototype, we conducted several user testing sessions. Based on the feedback received, we updated our GDD and created our second playtesting report. We also updated our prototype for submission to fix any bugs identified in the user testing sessions.

Individual Contributions

This week, I finished designing the basic tiles we needed for our prototype. Based on our meeting this week, we decided to use metal tiles for our factory's floor and walls and chose to use the metal tiles I created last week. I additionally created some extra tiles we needed that weren't in the set of exiting tiles from last week.

The metal tile we used for our game.

During the meeting this week, we went through several background music tracks/loops on soundimage.org and narrowed down several tracks and loops of similar styles that would fit our game environment to use as inspiration for creating the tracks and loops for our game. From there, I continued looking through soundimage.org to find other tracks and loops to use as inspiration. I also began experimenting with the sounds I previously created and some newly created sounds to try to create tracks/loops that would match the sample tracks/loops, which are still in progress.

Since we decided on our tiles this week, I also worked on the footstep sounds for our player character. This week, I looked at footstep sounds from existing video games and picked a couple that would match our player character and the tiles they are walking on.

Reflection

One issue that occurred this week was finding footstep sounds that would fit our player character and the tiles they are walking on. Originally I had planned to use real footstep sounds on metal floors but found that there were many different sounds depending on the type of shoe, the type of metal surface (floor, stair), and the type of room. Therefore, I ended up switching to looking for sounds from video games to solve this problem.

Next week, I will continue to look for more footstep sounds from video games and tweak the ones I like to fit our game.
