Week 9

Updated: Nov 13, 2019

Team Progress

Our team held a meeting this week where we discussed what we would be working on for the rest of the week. The rest of the week, we worked on coming up with setups for levels/puzzles based on confirmed body mods, level design rules/guidelines, and enemies based on an archetype system.

Individual Contributions

This week, I worked on creating a few setups for puzzle sections. One setup I came up with was a later game setup where the player must activate a pressure plate in a pit by dropping an enemy onto it to open another door. To do this, the player must lure the enemy on top of the sliding doors above the pit and then use the button on the opposite side of the pit to open the doors and drop the enemy onto the pressure plate.

The challenge is pressing the button while the enemy is still on top of the sliding doors. If the player presses the button early, the enemy will stop on the edge of the floor before the pit and won't fall into the plate. If the player presses the button late, the enemy will follow the player off of the sliding doors.

A setup where the player must lure an enemy into a pit to activate the pressure plate to open a door.

I also continued looking through soundimage.org this week to find other tracks and loops to use as inspiration. As well, I continued experimenting with the sounds I previously created and some newly created sounds to try to create tracks/loops that would match the sample tracks/loops, which are still in progress. In addition, I found a couple more footstep sounds from existing video games which I added to the existing set from last week. The footstep sounds still need to be narrowed down and edited.

Reflection

Since we came up with level/puzzle setups separately this week, we will need to discuss at our next meeting which setups we will use and how we will introduce them to create ramps and not increase the difficulty too suddenly. We will also have to figure out which of the setups we have come up with will be able to be combined with each other to create interesting setup combinations.
